with a little luck…

•May 19, 2008 • 1 Comment

We found a four Leaf clover!

And I wasn’t even looking for it. Cody took me to a tree t sniff around and when he stopped I looked down and there it was, right at my toe! I wonder if it really will bring me good luck like superstition has told us?

According to legend (and wikipedia):

The four-leaflet clover is an uncommon variation of the common three-leaf clover. According to superstition, such leaves bring good luck to their finders, especially if found accidentally.[1]

Clovers can have more than four leaflets. The most leaflets ever recorded is eighteen.[2]

Many believe that these are “four leaved” clovers which is not true as these are the “leaflets” and not “leaves”; usually clover have 3 leaflets.

According to legend, each leaflet represents something: the first is for hope, the second is for faith, the third is for love, and the fourth is for luck.[3] Legend also holds that if a lady hangs a four-leaf clover on her door, the next man to come in will become her husband.

It is debated whether the fourth leaflet is caused genetically or environmentally. Its rarity suggests a possible recessive gene appearing at a low frequency. Alternatively, four-leaf clovers could be caused by somatic mutation or a developmental error of environmental causes. They could also be caused by the interaction of several genes that happen to segregate in the individual plant. It is possible all four explanations could apply to individual cases.

You probably already guessed it- I definitely have it hanging over my door ;) *wink*

•April 29, 2008 • 1 Comment

I know I haven’t posted in a while athough I had a ton of things going on this week. This is a week of my life:

Rugby Dude got me a new computer!!!! I heart him. I’ve had this Dell computer since 2001 I think…and it was really starting to run slow these days. But who could complain, it was a present from my daddy so…anyway RD noticed it and got a really great deal on a used PC. It is fantastic so far, runs so fast!

Besides that I have had a lot going on. To quote a great soap opera: these are the days of our lives…

Friday April 18 200\8

We went with some friends to see Gregory Alan Isakov play in old town Louisville, CO. If you haven’t heard of him you should download his songs- he is amazing live. He sings with a band called The Freight and they are such a fit together. I think he will be big one day. Check him out @ gregoryalanisakov.com. Click the pic for more…

to the suit wearing guy who walks his dog by my house every morning

•April 16, 2008 • 1 Comment

Dear Suit guy and dog,

You don’t know me, but we cross paths every morning. You wear a suit every day, I assume for work; I mean you’re not just dressed up to walk your dog are you? We have a lot in common you know. We both have dogs, we both walk in the mornings with them, and we must live in the same neighborhood. You dress much nicer than I do in my Old Navy running pants and sweatshirt that I wear every morning. (I am probably more comfortable than you are, you should try dressing down for your walks)

There is one difference in us however. Most mornings you will find me walking the block with leash in one hand and a big bag o poop in the other. Sometimes I will walk for fifteen minutes at a time with that poop bag before I come to a dumpster or trash can, but you can bet on it that I will clean up after my dog. You however, allow your dog to poop where he pleases and you don’t pick it up. Tisk tisk lazy suit guy.

The way I see it, you are responsible for cleaning up after yourself and the animals you keep. It’s just like not littering. You don’t just go around throwing trash on the ground all over your own neighborhood do you? Do you not have any pride? Or is it because you don’t want to wrinkle your precious suit when you bend over to bag the horrendous pile of shit your dog left on Mrs Macgillucutty’s lawn? How about try dressing AFTER you walk the dog, would that make you less lazy? Or are you just one of those guys who just don’t give two shits. Oh wait you gave a whole pile of shit…

Tomorrow, my dear suit guy, I will be waiting for you to round the corner in front of my house like you always do at 7:08AM. But this time I will be armed with my very large oversized handy dandy pooper scooper. Watch out! I might even throw it at you. Pick up your damn dogs poop! Especially if it is in someone else’s yard. Even more importantly…if it is in MY yard!

hey jealousy

•April 10, 2008 • 2 Comments

I don’t know what it is about me, but I’ve never really been a girly- girl.  I wear plain tee shirts and pajama bottoms most days around the house.  To work I have my usual outfits, a pair of nice pants and a boring top.  I rarely put on jewelry, I wear the same necklace every day and whatever earrings are available to grab on the way out the door. Boring!

In the last couple of weeks I have tried to change it up a little bit.  I did my nails, I used tanning lotion, I plan out my wardrobe the night before instead of rushing in the morning, and I pulled out a whole box of jewelry that I never wear.  I’ve been accessorizing, wearing cuter shoes, curling my hair and trying not to wear the same thing twice in two weeks. I was feeling really good about myself. I felt pretty every day, I felt girly, I felt like a new person…that was until the new girl started at work.

This girl is a friggin supermodel, wears designer clothes, matching jewelry that probably has real diamonds instead of plastic, and you should see her shoe collection, can you say Jimmy Choo?  I am so jealous.  Immediately I went into insecure mode and picked myself apart to the point of crying in the bathroom at work. I went right back to feeling like the ugly frumpy girl who only has five outfits and shops at KMart.  I mean I know I’m not ugly,  I am probably just like every other normal girl I work with, but compared to this girl…I might as well blend in with the wallpaper.

I know…whaaaaa

But why am I comparing myself to her? I am not her, nor will I ever be her or live a life even close to the way she lives.  She grew up in a rich neighborhood with a wealthy family who probably still gives her a shopping allowance.  I am not that person. I will never be the fabulously glamorous rich girl who lives for the name brands. I’m just not like that and I am happy with that. She is not better than me.

I have to do the best I can with what I have, it may not be a lot, and it may not be the most fabulous, but I will make it my own and feel good about it.  I will never be drop dead gorgeous, I will never be the one the girls are jealous of, I will never drop jaws, but you know what?  I am okay with that.

I am okay with just being me.  And being me is pretty damn fabulous.

  1. I didnt sleep last night again-  in either of our two beds
  2. my boyfriend would rather play with his friends all night than take care of me
  3. it sucks being last on someones agenda

you pick your battles

•April 2, 2008 • 4 Comments

You pick your battles I suppose…

How come it is always we women who take the initiative over the household duties?  Why does it always have to be me that says “hey, this stuff needs to be taken care of”?

I secretly have stopped picking up things around the house this week in hopes that my esteemed better half, AKA one Rugby Dude would do it.  While he did do the dishes yesterday, and I love his for that, there are still 6 other rooms in the house that we both live in.

Why do I have to be the one to say to myself “hmm, that sure is a big glob of toothpaste in the sink that needs to be wiped up”

Or be the one to notice that Cody has strewn out all his dog toys all over the living room, and watch as RD even steps on one but leaves it there.

And I just love it when I can’t sleep and want to go into the guest bedroom to sleep but I can’t because the bed is filled with man clothes instead of sheets.

Or think to myself, hey there is only one more bath towel left I should do some laundry tonight.

Or even when a towel is on the floor and has been for a week, how come no one else picks it up? Oh and by the way, wadding it up and stuffing it behind the towel rack in a ball doesn’t count as hanging it up…neither does hanging it on the back of the chair in the guest room.

Why does it always have to be me?
And apparently when I don’t do it- it never gets done. Come to my house- you will see!

gossip girls

I love people watching.  It is one of my favorite past times.  It gets even more interesting when you can hear the conversations that go on.

I started walking around Washington Park every evening after work, it’s a little over 2 miles and that means plenty of time to eavesdrop!  The Washington Park area (Wash Park as we call it) is a Mecca for young professionals, new moms, svelte cyclists…you know…everyone and their dogs.

Rugby Dude and I have been walking the 2+ mile track every evening with Cody.  You would not believe what I overhear other people talking about! I know I’m being nosey, but seriously!  It is mostly the women gossiping to each other, the bored housewives strolling their huge strollers down the middle of the road so no one else can get by…or the catty co-workers taking about their hatred for so and so, or the nosey neighbors gossiping about whatever.

Seriously people, I don’t want to hear about Todd and Linda’s affair, or your sex life or lack thereof!  You need to stop airing your dirty laundry and other peoples where EVERYONE can hear you. You think you are talking to your girlfriend in confidence, but now all the rest of us in the general area heard you too.  And you weren’t talking quietly either.  Next time, maybe you should call your friend to gossip- or better yet; STOP TALKING BEHIND PEOPLES BACKS!

Gah.
